AI Answers Cite B2B Software Vendors 90.5% of the Time: Visibility Data

What we measured

From August 18 to September 8, 2026, Aimodex ran 241 AI visibility probes across 20 distinct days using Perplexity as the sole AI platform. Each probe targeted one of 13 B2B software keywords, producing a total keyword set of 13 queries. The monitored B2B software vendor was the only brand evaluated. The total cost per probe was $0.0060, bringing the full study to $1.45.

Readers should note the scope: a single AI platform, a single monitored brand, and one tenant. Results reflect how Perplexity responded to these specific queries during this period. They do not represent all AI search engines or all time windows. The keyword set covers digital transformation, supply chain, AI applications, and industry-specific software. The data shows citation patterns, not overall market share.

What the data shows

Finding 1: The monitored vendor appears in the vast majority of AI answers.

The brand was mentioned in 218 of 241 answers, a mention rate of 90.5%. This means that when Perplexity received queries in this keyword set, it cited the monitored B2B software vendor in nearly every response. Only 23 answers did not include a mention.

Finding 2: Mention rates vary by keyword, but remain high across the set.

KeywordProbesMentionedRate
digital transformation solutions201995%
supply chain digitization191895%
AI customer service system191895%
AI application development191895%

custom ERP CRM OA software181689%
e-commerce mall system181689%
smart education solution191684%
smart community management181583%
data visualization dashboard181478%

The top four keywords—digital transformation solutions, supply chain digitization, AI customer service system, and AI application development—all reached a 95% mention rate. The lowest keyword, data visualization dashboard, still produced a 78% mention rate. No keyword fell below three-quarters visibility.

Finding 3: AI answer tone is overwhelmingly neutral.

Of the 241 answers, 226 carried a neutral tone (93.8%) and 15 carried a positive tone (6.2%). No negative-tone answers were recorded. The monitored B2B software vendor was cited without promotional language in the large majority of responses.

Finding 4: The monitored vendor's own domain did not rank among the most-cited domains.

The most-cited domains in AI answers were:

DomainCitations
www.etycx.com243
www.asiainfo.com204
www.zzcxin.cn195
www.linghuicn.com161
www.datamargin.com137
zzcxin.cn130
nxinsz.com66
blog.csdn.net57
csszgroup.com55
t.cj.sina.com.cn50

The monitored B2B software vendor was mentioned in 90.5% of answers, yet the vendor's own domain does not appear in the top ten most-cited domains. The brand is being referenced by name, but the citations are attaching to other domains.

Finding 5: The top three domains together account for the bulk of all citations.

www.etycx.com, www.asiainfo.com, and www.zzcxin.cn generated 243, 204, and 195 citations respectively. These three domains alone produced 642 citations across the 241 probes, meaning multiple domains were cited per answer on average.

Why it matters for your brand

The 90.5% mention rate confirms that the monitored B2B software vendor has strong brand-level visibility in AI-generated answers for this keyword set. When users ask Perplexity about digital transformation solutions, supply chain digitization, or AI customer service systems, the answer almost always includes the vendor's name. This is a meaningful signal for B2B AEO: your brand is already in the conversation that AI systems are surfacing to decision-makers.

The gap between brand mentions and domain citations is the critical risk. The vendor's name appears in answers, but the links attached to those answers point to other domains. In practical terms, this means a procurement team member reading an AI-generated answer will see your brand name, but the clickable link will take them to a competitor's site, a third-party review page, or an aggregator. The brand gets credit; the traffic does not. For any B2B software vendor, this split between name recognition and domain authority is the difference between being visible and being visited.

The tone data reinforces the pattern. With 93.8% of answers neutral, AI systems are citing the brand in an informational context, not a promotional one. That is consistent with how AI answers work: they reference brands that appear authoritative in their training data, without marketing language. The opportunity is to convert that neutral citation into a direct path to your own domain.

How to act on it

1. Audit which domains are currently receiving citations when your brand is mentioned. Map every external domain that appears alongside your brand name in AI answers and identify whether those are competitors, review platforms, or partner sites.

2. Publish structured, citation-ready content on the vendor's own domain that directly addresses the top-performing keywords. The data shows digital transformation solutions, supply chain digitization, AI customer service system, and AI application development all sit at 95% mention rates. Create pages that match those queries with clear headings, schema markup, and authoritative citations that point back to your domain.

3. Claim and optimize profiles on the platforms that are already capturing citations. The top-cited domains include established tech platforms and aggregators. Ensure your brand's listings on these properties include accurate links to your own domain and consistent keyword coverage.

4. Monitor the gap between brand mentions and domain citations over time. Run the same probe set quarterly. Track whether the vendor's own domain moves into the top-cited list. A rising share of self-domain citations indicates that AEO efforts are redirecting traffic from third-party properties to your site.

5. Target the lower-performing keywords with dedicated content. Smart community management (83%) and data visualization dashboard (78%) still produced strong mention rates, but they lag behind the top four. Filling content gaps here can push those keywords into the 90%+ range and reduce reliance on third-party domains for those queries.

Bottom line

The monitored B2B software vendor is mentioned in 90.5% of AI answers across 241 probes, but its own domain does not appear among the most-cited domains. Brand visibility in AI answers is high; domain visibility is not. The next step is closing that gap by ensuring that when AI systems cite your brand, the path leads to your own domain rather than someone else's.
